Updated: Amazon Decides To Ship Kindle Fire And Kindle Touch Early

In a move that surely has nothing to do with the impending launch of the Nook Tablet, Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) is shipping the Kindle Fire today and the Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G tomorrow. Update, 11/16/11: Amazon is shipping these devices on a first-come, first-served basis. While those who pre-ordered their Kindle Touch back in September may get it today, those who ordered the device later won’t get it early. For instance, the Kindle Touch I pre-ordered in October is not set to ship until November 23.

The Kindle Fire was originally supposed to ship tomorrow, and the Kindle Touch was supposed to ship on November 21.

In the press release announcing the Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G’s early ship date, Kindle VP Dave Limp gets mathy: “Sales of our electronic ink Kindles are more than double any previous Kindle launch,” he says.

In the Kindle Fire early ship press release, Limp says the Fire is the bestselling item across all of Amazon. The press release also includes early positive reviews of the Fire from Gizmodo, Mashable and CNET, among others. For our early review roundup (including some negative reviews), click here.

It’s unclear if the devices are also going to be on sale early in bricks-and-mortar stores; I’m checking with Amazon. Update: An Amazon spokeswoman told me the Kindle Fire will be in stores tomorrow and the Kindle Touch will be in stores on Wednesday.

Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet will be available November 18.
