Amazon.com Buys Digital Photography Review Site Dpreview

An interesting acquisition by Amazon.com: it acquired London-based digital camera review site Dpreview.com. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The site, which I’ve used in the past before buying digital cameras, has in-depth reviews of the new cameras in the market, buyers guides and forums.  Dpreview.com, founded in 1998, will maintain its current management and operations structure. Interesting because I am not sure Amazon.com has made a review site acquisitions in the past, and also because Amazon.con plans to let the site run independently. More details in the release here.
Updated: Zeke reminds us in the comments that Amazon.com bought IMDB…which of course is a reviews side, only on the movie side. I meant a physical product side, but point taken.

I’d love to know the valuation and the rational behind on this one.
