AMC Buys Two Movie-Related Websites

Cablevision-owned AMC has made two small online acquisitions: it has bought filmsite.org, a site for classic movie reviews and commentary, and filmcritic.com, a catch-all movie review website. Financial details were not disclosed. Filmcritic is one of the oldest movie review sites and founded by journalist and editor Christopher Null in 1995. Filmsite was also founded around the same time. More details in this B&C story.

This adds to AMC’s growing online presence, built mainly on the back of its two original hit shows Mad Men and Breaking Bad (something that’s true for the TV channel as well). In fact, Compete stats show that AMCTv.com website had about 370K uniques in April this year, compared to 197K a year ago, and majority of its search traffic comes from users searching for the two hit shows. It has also recently launched some iPhone apps as well.
