Announcing Our New Board Member: Larry Kramer

We have an affinity for Kramers (Staci and Billy), that’s already known. Now we’re adding another one, though not related to the other two: Larry Kramer, the newest member of the board of directors for ContentNext Media (the parent company of paidContent.org, mocoNews.net and contentSutra.com). He brings a blend of business acumen and journalism experience few can match.

Larry currently is an advisor to CBS on interactive matters. He served as the first president of CBS Digital Media, from March 2005 until November, 2006, reporting directly to Leslie Moonves. Prior to joining CBS, Kramer was chairman, CEO and founder of MarketWatch, Inc. (CBS MarketWatch) until its sale to Dow Jones for $528 million in January 2005. Prior to that, he created the joint venture between Data Broadcasting Corp. and CBS, launching the company in October 1997 and taking it public in January 1999.

And then, his journalism career: He started his career in 1974 as a reporter for the San Francisco Examiner. In 1977, he became a financial reporter for the Washington Post. In 1980, the Post promoted him to executive editor of the Trenton (N.J.) Times. In 1982, he returned to the Post to serve first as assistant to Executive Editor Benjamin C. Bradlee and later as assistant managing editor and metro editor.  In 1986, he returned to the Examiner as executive editor, leaving in 1991 to start DataSport, Inc.

That is what attracted us to Larry: his mix of experience and leadership first as a journalist and then as a business media entrepreneur followed by traditional media executive. For the last few years, he has, on occasion, been a sounding board for me on business and editorial issues and now we’re formalizing the relationship.

We’re lucky to have him on board as we grow from a scrappy startup to a scrappy media company. He’ll be at our NYC mixer this evening at the NY Hilton.
