Corrected: Arkadium Acquires Gamelab.com URL
Casual and advergaming company Arkadium has acquired the URL Gamelab.com, from its former owner, a N.Y.-based game game developer of the same name. Financial terms were not disclosed. This is Arkadium’s second acquisition in the past three months; the company acquired Advergame.com in July. It will use the URL to help drive more traffic to its own games arcade.

Founded in 2000, Gamelab.com has created popular casual games like Diner Dash and Subway Scramble; many of its titles are also available via mobile phone. Corrected: Founder Eric Zimmerman and his team will join Arkadium. Gamelab.com will no longer develop games, and Zimmerman will not be joining Arkadium. Instead, he will work with the company to spearhead “The Game Development Design Series,” a new set of free game design workshops for developers in the New York area. In a statement, Arkadium CEO Kenny Rosenblatt said a key motivator for the acquisition was the opportunity to help support and grow New York’s game development community through the workshops.
