BackType Nabs $300K Seed Round For Comment-Tracking
Blog comment-tracking tool BackType has received $300,000 in seed funding from True Ventures. The startup launched last August with a $15,000 investment from Y Combinator, according to TechCrunch. The new investment comes amid an increased focus on helping users and publishers track their comments and conversations: Yahoo just tapped JS-Kit to enable comment-tracking across its network, and Facebook rolled out a Comments Box that pulls in content from around the web.

BackType blends comment-tracking with search as users can search by keyword or by person; the service also allows query tracking by RSS feed and e-mail. The startup also unveiled two new features today: BackTweets, which lets users follow Twitter messages on a separate site, and BackType Connect, which lets users follow comments tied to specific blog posts. These extras help separate BackType from other commenting services like JS-Kit, Co-comment and Uber-Vu.
