Ballmer: Yahoo Buyout Is Not Gonna Happen

imageSorry, Jerry, a buyout’s not gonna happen. That’s the message MSFT CEO Steve Ballmer made clear at a business luncheon in Sydney, Reuters says.

“We made an offer, we made another offer ... We moved on,“Ballmer said. “We tried at one point to do a partnership around search ... and that didn’t work either, and we moved on and they moved on. We are not interested in going back and re-looking at an acquisition. I don’t know why they would be either, frankly.”

But he did leave the door open for a potential search deal, something some analysts say Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) will have to consider if it wants to stay alive despite the demise of its search partnership with Google (NSDQ: GOOG). Ballmer’s definitive statement came after Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang suggested that MSFT buy Yahoo during the Web 2.0 conference yesterday.

It was a disaster strategy in action after Terry and atleast top 5 smart people left Yahoo! in jan . A company@ half the value now -still communicate we are focussed and will stay focussed . all smart people are either left the ship or planning to vacate anytime . its also interesting to say , some good people find it difficult to survive with the remaing lot . hope microsoct will come to their rescue otherwise a fine brand from 90s will die an early demise in 2009

Good for them. I think they can offer alot to the consumer, they just have to get focused on who they are and build on that.

It amazing to me that these two search engines have the opportunity to take a huge chunk out of Google if they were to come together, yet they are being stubborn and staying separate.
