BaseKit Attracts $2.6 Million To Turn Images In To Websites

BaseKit, a production platform that turns Photoshop templates in to websites, has attracted a $2.6 million first venture round to launch its service in the U.S. and UK.

The money is coming from We7 and Huddle backer Eden Ventures and from the UK’s National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA).

Chepstow, Wales-based BaseKit was one of seven startups picked to receive funding and advice from the Seedcamp contest in 2008, giving it Stateside exposure during a Silicon Valley tour arranged by Seedcamp.

The company reckons 90 percent of small business websites are designed in Photoshop but that it’s difficult to translate those designs in to actual HTML. I fear a rash of garish, graphics-heavy builds, but examples look more mature than that.

BaseKit has a free option or a premium service costing from £5 or $8 a month. The company also has a London office and raised initial seed funds in April 2009.
