BBC iPlayer—Finally—Will Go Cross-Platform With Adobe

After months of criticism, the BBC will be able to offer Mac and Linux users access to its catch-up video service iPlayer by the end of the year via a just-announced strategic relationship with Adobe. The twist: as the BBC’s top digital exec Ashley Highfield told paidContent:UK last month would be the case, Mac and Linux use will be limited to streaming through Adobe (NSDQ: ADBE) Flash Player software while the PC download service stays Windows only. (Windows users will be able to access the streaming video, too.) Release.
