BREAKING: Yahoo Replaces CEO; Founder Jerry Yang Back In Seat; Decker Is President

This is a huge surprise, even though we knew it was imminent ... Jerry Yang, Yahoo co-founder and long-time board member, as Chief Executive Officer. Terry Semel, current Yahoo Chairman and CEO, will assume the position of non-executive Chairman and serve as an advisor, while also working closely with the Board. The board also named Susan Decker, formerly EVP and Head of Advertiser and Publisher Group, as President of the company. Release.

In Yang’s post on Yodel Anecdotal titled “My New Job,” he thanks Semel, writing that today “marks the close of a great chapter in my life with Terry Semel as my partner.” Why Decker as president? “In addition to knowing this company inside and out, Sue has incredible talents, leadership abilities, a fierce focus on winning, and intense dedication to this company and its people. I look forward to teaming more closely with her as we pursue our joint vision.”

What vision? Yang has an answer for that, too: “A Yahoo! that executes with speed, clarity and discipline. A Yahoo! that increases its focus on differentiating its products and investing in creativity and innovation. A Yahoo! that better monetizes its audience. A Yahoo! whose great talent is galvanized to address its challenges. And a Yahoo! that is better focused on what’s important to its users, customers, and employees. The past year has obviously not been an easy one for us. But we’ve taken important steps to address the challenges we face, and we’re starting to realize some of the benefits – especially with the successful launch of Panama, which continues to receive positive feedback from advertisers and is exceeding our expectations. By the way, that’s directly attributable to the operational excellent mentality Terry has instilled and is a clear sign one of his most critical initiatives is succeeding.”

Say what you want.  I’m surprised that they picked Jerry to run the company.  He obviously knows the company better than just about anyone, but with his having been there during the “rough times” I would have thought that they’d go for someone who brought a fresher perspective. That being said, I’m a huge fan of Yahoo and am looking for more greatness from them.

I think the key thing for Yahoo is focus, focus, focus. they seem to be missing the boat on so many things its makes them look like some second tier company. Focus and get something right and lead from that. Their efforts on Panama should be tripled since thats a great potential money maker.

So what if he is experienced enough, let him do it. At the moment Yahoo is 2nd after google. They could do a lot more to increse their market share. Time will tell…

I think the key gadget for Yahoo is narrowing gap, indistinct, bottleneck. they seem to be missing the boat on so clutter adventures its makes the people upstairs look like some biparous tier chum. Focus and get person of renown right and aim wizard that. Their efforts on Panama be forced be tripled seeing that thats a bully natural gift kitty maker.

I’m still not really convinced with that vision statement. I mean, vision needs to be simple and to the point. That vision sounds too complicated, and way too democratic. While Yahoo! Must listen to its customers, it cannot be everything to everybody otherwise it looses and just becomes a big hive of really everything but nothing at the same time. We don’t need an online Wal-mart of sorts : we need something that’s dedicated and focused to at least one mission (even if that mission is : to control all information in the world!)

Yahoo messed up by holding out for too much money from Microsoft. Yahoo CEO at the time did not understand how much the market had changed. Yahoo has not bee the only search engine in the game for a long long time. More over they have made some questionable business practices recently….He should have been out right fired and had his stock options striped.

Jerry Yang ist the greatest mistake of Yahoo. In comparison of Google he wakes up too late. Google is in Europe and in the US the giant and Yahoo is the looser.

In the year 1994 Yahoo was founded. 1998 folks Google. In the follow years Yahoo have lost a lot of points on the search engine market. And this is just the beginning. Yahoo have no chance to win against Google…
