Broadband Content Bits: 60Frames; HS Musical; George of the Jungle; Virtual Artists; Akamai; Tivo

60Frames launches seven new shows: UTA’s new media studio 60Frames Entertainment launched seven new web series today, featuring work from writers and talent from NBC and Comedy Central. The Hollywood Reporter says these shows are just the first of up to 50 different series 60Frames intends to launch later this year. The studio will syndicate its content through MySpace, iTunes, Bebo and YouTube, splitting the ad revenue.

Terra to broadcast Disney (NYSE: DIS) content: Disney has inked a deal with Argentina’s Terra TV site to provide the Telefonica (NYSE: TEF) subsidiary shows including High School Musical and Lost, Variety reports. Terra TV offers over 90,000 hours of VOD and generates up to 70 hours of original content per month.

Cartoon Network’s new George of the Jungle: Gearing up for the premiere of the new George of the Jungle show, Cartoon Network and Special Ops Media have created a George of the Jungle website where users can watch clips, listen to the theme song and download wallpapers, buddy icons, screen savers and desktop mascots in addition to playing a game on the Cartoon Network site. CN marketing SVP Dennis Adamovich tells the NYT: “The best way to reach out to every kid in America” is to consider television just one way to publicize the show, along with the Internet, promotions, DVDs, games (online and video), commercials in in movie theaters, radio and the CNN Airport Network—plus podcasts and VOD to come.

Striking writers to launch online video company: A group of WGA writers have teamed up with online community experts from Silicon Valley to launch Virtual Artists later this year, according to NewTeeVee. They hope to raise at least $30 million and will focus on developing and producing films, TV shows and shorts, while also acquiring content.

Akamai (NSDQ: AKAM) powering iTunes rentals: Akamai’s CDN is powering Apple’s (NSDQ: AAPL) new iTunes movie rental service, according to an traffic analysis done by Pacific Crest analyst Chad Bartley. There had been concerns that Apple was turning away from Akamai, so this alleviates that fear. The news sent Akamai shares up nearly 3 percent today. (via AP)

TiVo (NSDQ: TIVO) partners with Jaman: DVR maker TiVo will partner with film download site Jaman.com, to distribute its library of independent and international films. In the coming months, broadband-enabled Series 2 and Series 3 TiVos will be able to access an expanded slate of films, starting at $1.99 for rentals and purchases. Other content, including short films, will be made available for free. Release.

    The fact there's a site may only matter to George fans ... but the way CN looks at it all—TV as just one way to publicize, not that the site is a promo tool for TV, struck me as interesting.
