Broadband Content Bits: Discovery’s Planet Green; TommyTV; Alicia in Africa; myLifetime

Discovery’s Planet Green Launches Shows with TreeHugger.com to Blog in Tandem: In a bid to generate new media buzz before turning Discovery Home into Planet Green, Discovery’s Planet Green is set to launch three of its original shows, Wasted, Mean Green Machines and Greenovate on VOD menus available across most cable operators, according to TVWeek. Short clips from the shows will also be available to Discovery’s mobile video partners starting April 21 for two weeks. PlanetGreen.com officially launches this week featuring green buying guides, do-it-yourself information on projects ranging from recipes to renovation and social elements including forums, comments and voting on posts. Meanwhile, the network’s blog TreeHugger.com, will work in tandem with PlanetGreen.com, covering broader issues behind its content and the entertainment programming.

Tommy Hilfiger Rolls Out Online Video Music Venture: Tommy Hilfiger launched TommyTV this week, a new online video site featuring concert and backstage footage, reports AdAge. The videos, shot at The Hilfiger Sessions’ concerts, feature live performances of several artists including John Legend, Good Charlotte, Herbie Hancock and Michael Jackson.

Alicia Keys Africa Documentary to Debut online: Keep a Child Alive, a charity that sends food and medicine to AIDS patients in Africa, will debut Alicia in Africa, a documentary chronicling R&B singer Alicia Keys’ month-long trip to the country online via a blip.tv-supported player. A portion of the documentary aired on American Idol on Fox last night and viewers who visit americanidol.com will be redirected to the official site, AliciainAfrica.com. The film will also be available on impact.myspace.com and offered as a free download by SpiralFrog.

myLifetime.com Revamps Site, Offers New Programming: Lifetime Networks will relaunch myLifetime.com with a new broadband video channel, applications and a WAP site.  Aside from more than 15 original webisode series, the video channel will feature full episodes of Lifestime series such as Army Wives and Project Runway as well as full-length screenings of select original movies. The new apps will enable users to create their own movie mash-ups and try out new looks with the Total Beauty Makeover tool. The site will also feature a photo uploading and captioning channel and several new blogs.

    Wow. Alicia key's documentary really opened my eyes. The state of their society is really like looking into the past. It's like how a cambodian fisherman only makes about 2 USD every month by selling the fish he catches. Panhandlers have more income than that! It really makes you wonder.
