Business Search Engine Zubican Launches With Wide Group Of Investors

Zubican, a recently launched business search site, has announced investors including Athenaeum Capital, Pasadena Angels, Tech Coast Angels, along with founders and executives of JAMDAT Mobile, mp3.com, NTI Group, Overture Services, Rent.com, Tickets.com and Vivendi (EPA: VIV) Universal Net USA. The LA-based startup bears similarity to Hoovers or its parent Dun & Bradstreet (NYSE: DNB), in that it’s a web-based database of businesses around the country. In addition to the search services, the site offers a commercial platform and a way for companies to rate potential business partners.

  • This is Matthew Graczyk, Zubican’s CEO. We're just getting started and the goal is to help b2b buyers find and connect with b2b sellers. Vertical search is central to what we do, and we're going to continue to improve our capabilities and features. One of the things we know we have to improve is the search UI to make it more clear to users how to use it. Since we're also building this for the benefit of the b2b community it’s important for us to involve you and hear what you want. That's the reason for the early release. Please contact me directly to learn some of our search “quirks” (which we’ll soon fix) or with additional ideas for how we can improve at mattg@zubican.com.

Not sure what this is supposed to be. Just checked it out—- odd, weird are words that come to mind.

Still searching for the killer vertical search.  What is the point of this and can we only hope that it is in something embryonic to alpha?

I took a look hoping is was good because there's a need for a great site in this category, then reality set in. This is terrible! Waste of time. Even worse than cuil.com and that's hard.
