App developer Callaway Digital Arts has raised a $6 million first round funding. The funding comes as the New York company has completed its biggest assignment yet: creating Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s first iPad app, which went on sale earlier this morning.

The Martha Stewart Makes Cookies App is available for $7.99. It comes several months after the company unveiled its first app, Everyday Food, which sells for $0.99. The previous app, which was designed for the iPhone and iPod touch, has been downloaded nearly 200,000 times since its mid-February launch, the company told paidContent.

MSLO’s new app is intended as both a recipe book and a cookie gift guide bakers in time for the holidays. It features 50 recipes, shopping lists, and 11 “how-to” videos. The app is expected to be updated with 50 more recipes in January, timed for Valentine’s Day, and comes as MSLO is preparing additional apps.

The media company plans to work on several more apps with Callaway. The startup is less than a year old. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers’ iFund led Callaway’s round under direction from partner John Doerr.

Nicholas Callaway, the company’s founder, previously started multimedia publisher Calloway Arts & Entertainment. The app development firm was spun out of CEA to give the company a clearer distinction in creating products for the iPad and other tablets, separate from the more general focus of Callaway’s previous business, which mostly produces books.
