CampusExplorer, an online school search portal aimed at prospective college students, guidance counselors and admission officers, has raised $2.25 million in its second round of funding. The round was led by OCA Ventures, along with Origin Ventures and existing investor Rincon Venture Partners. The site, based in Santa Monica, Calif., raised its first round in summer of 2007, though the amount was not disclosed then. The site is a mix of college information searches and guidance tools to help students and parents decide on the right school. Competition includes the better known guides from US News media group and more user-gen oriented and college social networking sites, including the informal advice on Facebook and others. More details in release.
