Industry Moves: Changes At TheStreet’s MainStreet.com; Editor Caroline Waxler Out

imageIf MainStreet.com is the future of TheStreet.com (NSDQ: TSCM) as CEO Thomas Clarke described it at a recent conference, this should raise some eyebrows… Founding editor-in-chief Caroline Waxler left the company yesterday, as it seems the personal finance-oriented site is going through growing pains. The news was first reported by Portfolio.com, and we have confirmed it as well. The site launched to somewhat mixed reviews—we called it Fox Business-ish or TMZ-like, though Clarke spoke highly of it, even suggesting the whole company could be rebranded around that name. We’re still not clear on what prompted the change, or what it means for the site.

Mainstreet’s future has implications beyond TheStreet, as the site competes with young peers, like the finally launched DJ-IAC (NSDQ: IACI) JV FiLife and the soon-to-launch Slate spinoff, The Big Money. None are perfect analogues, though each are trying to crack the “business for non-business folk” nut. More as we hear more.
