Chat Startup Vivaty To Launch With Backing From Kleiner Perkins, Mohr Davidow

Vivaty, a start-up focused on 3D chat rooms, has raised funding from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Buyers and Mohr Davidow, according to the NYT. The Menlo Park, CA-based company, slated to launch in limited beta this week, will offer its services on Facebook, allowing users to turn their profile into a more immersive chat environment. Ultimately, founder Keith McCurdy, a former Electronic Arts (NSDQ: ERTS) VP, wants to bring more internet content into a more virtual worlds-like environment, though unlike established virtual worlds, the service will be scattered across the web. Terms of the funding were not report. The company’s site isn’t live, though a cached version of a previous site offers some more info.
