More activity in the hot local product search market: Local business search firm CitySquares has bought up local shopping directory Yokel. CitySquares’ search engine lets visitors find local businesses in their neighborhoods; Yokel goes one step further, letting users search for specific products that are available at stores near to them.

In a blog post announcing the deal, CitySquares says it sees “many potential opportunities to combine the power of product and hyper-local search to help local merchants across the nation build a stronger and bigger customer base.”

The deal comes as the online local shopping search market has seen lots of activity in recent months. Milo.com, which lets users find items currently available near to them, raised $4 million in late November. Google (NSDQ: GOOG), meanwhile, has said it will soon begin to include listings of products available in stock near to a user’s location in its product search.

No financial terms of the deal were released. CitySquares has raised two rounds of funding, including an unspecified amount last October from Dallas Maverick owner Mark Cuban and The Kraft Group’s Jonathan Kraft, which it said it would use to launch a national expansion. Yokel hadn’t announced any outside funding.
