Comcast So Very Close To NBCU Deal; Vivendi Talks Still Continuing
Comcast (NSDQ: CMCSA) is very close to sealing the NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) majority-stake deal, and an announcement could be made by next week, reports NYT. The broad points of the deal were agreed to by the two teams Friday, says the story, with the broad points as have been reported before: Comcast will own 51 percent, and will contribute several billion dollars and its own cable channels, while GE will still own 49 percent and contribute about $12 billion in debt to the new entity; GE is expected to divest of the rest of the stake over the next few years. The two companies plan to present to credit ratings agencies like Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s Investors Service, later this week, the story says.
The main sticking point is negotiations with Vivendi (EPA: VIV), which are still ongoing. It owns 20 percent of NBCU, and has yet to come to an agreement about the valuation of its stake.
