Crafts Site Etsy Buys Ad Platform Adtuitive
Do-it-yourself hobbyist marketplace Etsy has acquired ad platform operator Adtuitive for an undisclosed sum. In post on Etsy’s blog, the company says its decided to buy Adtuitive, which is currently in stealth-mode, to help the crafts site build out its search algorithms and expand Etsy’s Showcase ad system. Adtuitive (fka as “Adtuition”) is made up of just five staffers who are all joining Etsy. Although Etsy is not typically associated with advertising, it shows the five-year-old site is interested in growing beyond the eBay (NSDQ: EBAY) and Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) comparisons. The site generally makes money by taking a small portion of the revenues from each sale made through the site.
