Just in time for the annual horse racing hype fest that comes out of the gate with the Kentucky Derby, racing’s “bible” and the network with two-thirds of the Triple Crown have paired up for co-branded online racing coverage. The Daily Racing Form’s DRF.com is producing an in-depth thoroughbred racing section for NBCSports.com, a mix of the site’s usual fare for enthusiasts and serious bettors with features aimed at beginners.  Expect an announcement later today but the site is already live.

NBC airs the Kentucky Derby this Saturday, which is when horse racing traditionally grabs the attention of more casual fans and—if the racing gods are in the mood and deliver a real Triple Crown contender—escalates through the Preakness May 15 and the Belmont Stakes June 5 (on ABC). DRF.com’s features for the section include video analysis, race replays, looks at past performances, profiles of all the contenders. For the cost of an ad rev share, NBC Sports gets the depth it’s lacked in the past without the kind of expense it would take to do in house while DRF gets exposure to a consumer audience that may grow the next batch of enthusiasts. The deal runs through the end of the year.
