Demand Media, the online social media company owned by former MySpace chairman Richard Rosenblatt, has made its 10th acquisition: video site ExpertVillage. The terms weren’t disclosed. The purchase is intended to augment DM’s roster of “how-to” sites, such as eHow.com and answerbag.com. The year-old ExpertVillage has 17,000 short-form videos that attempt to match professional and amateur filmmakers with instructional topics. Filmmakers are paid for the rights to their films.

Reuters: ExpertVillage has been facing increased competition in the how-to video space in recent months. For example, London-based VideoJug just launched its instructional site in the U.S. and plans to add 100,000 more videos over the summer. Also, as we reported in April, online reference site HowStuffWorks was working on developing a video service.

Rosenblatt: “We intend on increasing the scale of ExpertVillage’s existing business and expanding into new content areas.” Release
