Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine Close to Buying Silverman’s Reveille For About $200 Million
Considering Reveille’s digital creds with its shows, important to mention: Ben Silverman’s TV production company Reveille is close to being bought by UK’s independent production company Shine, for about $200 million, reports Variety. Shine was founded by Elisabeth Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch’s daughter, and has been buying up other UK indie shops in the last year. She was previously the managing director of Sky Networks, and left the Murdoch family business in 2000, setting up her own company Shine one year later.

Sony (NYSE: SNE) owns about 15 percent of Shine, and venture firm 3i about 21 percent. Murdoch and a trust in her name own 58 per cent of the company. Meanwhile, Reveille was founded by now NBC Entertainment/Universal Media Studios co-chair Ben Silverman in 2002. Silverman no longer handles day-to-day operations at Reveille, but it’s still his company—and therefore is playing an active role in its sale, the Variety story says.
Reveille hit TV series include Ugly Betty, The Office, The Tudors, The Biggest Loser, among others, and it also has a digital video deal with MSN (which hasn’t really resulted in much).
FT: With this acquisition the company would be worth about $500 million. At that size, it dwarfs British “super-indies” such as RDF Media and Shed and is nudging the top ranks alongside talkbackThames, Endemol, All3Media, Hit Entertainment and IMG.
