Online music “club” eMusic has hired Adam Klein as its new CEO. Klein is a long-time digital media executive, who has overseen EMI’s digital strategy and also served as president at VideoEgg. He’s replacing current eMusic CEO Daniel Stein, who is staying on as chairman of the company and also as CEO of eMusic owner Dimensional Associates.

Klein’s hiring comes as eMusic has talked for several months now about broadening its offerings beyond downloads; members currently pay $11.99 a month for a basic membership, which includes 24 song downloads. In an interview, Klein tells AllThingsD‘s Peter Kafka that the company plans to introduce a service that would let members store their music collections on eMusic so that they can access it from “any device, wherever they are.” It’s due for a full launch next year.

This is eMusic’s second CEO switch in two years. Stein succeeded long-time CEO David Pakman, who announced his plans to leave in September 2008.
