European Regulators And FTC Both Looking Into Apple’s Policies, Report Says
Back in June, it was reported that the FTC was reviewing allegations into Apple’s new policies that limited access to the iPhone’s the mobile-advertising market for rival platform providers. Now, the New York Post is reporting that European regulators have teamed with the FTC in its investigation.
According to the Post’s source, the European Commission recently joined the probe, which could last another four to six months. The European Commission, the FTC and Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) declined to comment.
The point of contention is over a new policy by Apple that banned mobile ad networks, such as Google’s AdMob, from collecting information like a person’s location to provide more relevant advertising. The ban seemed to be limited to mobile-ad networks that were closely connected with companies that also had a mobile operating system. Google (NSDQ: GOOG) recently absorbed AdMob following its $750 million cash merger.
