Faculte Raises $2.8 Million For Video Presentation Platform

Online video presentation startup Faculte has raised $2.8 million in a first round of funding according to an SEC filing. The company tells us that Calumet Venture Fund, along with angel investors, participated in the round. Faculte’s web-based ‘Broadcast Studio’ platform is aimed at businesses that want to set up interactive video presentations. Businesses can add video, voice and other visuals to an online presentation, which they can then distribute across the web. They can also use Faculte’s platform to charge viewers who want to watch it.

As we’ve noted before, there’s been robust venture capital activity lately in the online design/presentation/storytelling space. One theory behind the trend is that the revenue model for most of these startups is fee, rather than ad-based—something which may be attractive to investors in a lackluster advertising environment. For instance, Faculte says it makes money by selling subscription licenses to its platform and also by charging a transaction fee when users sell access to their presentations.
