Sampa, a Seattle startup that made it easy for families to set up a central place to share photos, blog posts and other information online, is shutting down. In a message on its site posted Friday, Sampa says it wasn’t able to pay its bills to keep the service up: “We feel bad for all the people we disappointed, from our avid customers to our investors, including our families that have actively used the service themselves and supported us during this journey.” Sampa had raised $1 million in an angel round a year ago.

The company is encouraging users to export their sites to competitors, including baby-focused website creator TotSites, online family organizer Cozi, and of course Wordpress. In a difficult economic (and funding) environment Sampa is the latest in a line of startups to announce they will close. Another startup with a niche demographic audience—baby boomer social network TeeBeeDee —also said it would shut down recently.
