Fanzter, an early-stage new media development start-up, has raised a first round from Richard Barton (Benchmark Capital, Expedia, Zillow.com), and Seattle-based VCs Second Avenue Partners and Curious Office, as well as angel investors from media and entertainment. The amount wasn’t announced but we have confirmed that it is about $2 million. Aaron LaBerge and Eric Kirsten started the Collinsville, Conn.-based company last summer to create consumer internet products. LaBerge most recently was an SVP of technology and product development for ESPN (NYSE: DIS), where he was a leader on ESPN Motion and GameCast; serial entrepreneur Kirsten was a founder of TrueChat and Ames Seminars. They plan to launch their first product, Coolspotters, early this year; it’s in closed beta now. They describe it as a “consumer web-product, sitting at the intersection of pop-culture and products.” (Their obligatory start-up Facebook app is here.) Release.
