Updated: July 07, 2009: The amount raised is $700K, according to an SEC filing, from a total of nine investors.

Original post: Typography for the web may not sound that sexy, but the idea has been enough to attract funding from the likes of Twitter co-founder Evan Williams, Flickr creator Caterina Fake, and Matt Mullenweg, the force behind WordPress and Automattic. The recipient of the undisclosed amount of funding is San Francisco-based Small Batch, which has an online typography service called Typekit. True Ventures led the round and was also joined by angel investor Ron Conway, Chris Sacca from Lowercase Capital, and Josh Felser and Dave Samuel of Freestyle Capital.

Venturebeat says that Small Batch also has a service for tracking the popularity of Wikipedia articles; a post on the company’s official blog says it needed the funding “to build the amazing service we’ve got planned.” Typekit is scheduled to preview its font library in the next few weeks, the company adds. The funding speaks to the power of connections, as Small Batch’s CEO Jeffrey Veen, who previously helped start design consultancy Adaptive Path, and the company’s other co-founders have made names for themselves creating apps for tech companies for several years. The team behind Small Batch also created Measure Map, a blogging statistics tool that was acquired by Google (NSDQ: GOOG) and helped cement their status among a tight group of the San Francisco area’s entrepreneurs and investors.
