News Corp.‘s divestment on the digital side continues in earnest: first Photobucket, then Rotten Tomatoes. Now paidContent has learned that News Corp (NYSE: NWS). has offloaded its lesser-known Digital Publishing Group to VantagePoint Venture Partners, with Fox retaining a stake in the venture. The group develops and manages content management and digital publishing systems for Fox local affiliate TV station websites, among others. The structure is similar to what News Corp did when it sold Photobucket and RottenTomatoes. Slight trivia: VantagePoint was an investor in Intermix, parent of MySpace, before it was sold to News Corp.

DPG, headed by Ron Berryman, currently SVP and GM at News Corp. Digital Media, was founded in 2005 as FIM Stations Group, and manages TV station websites for a number of Fox local affiliates, as well as some NBC, ABC, CBS and CW stations (full list of about 42 stations here). Berryman came over to Fox through its Sidereus Technologies acquisition in 2005, which then morphed into FIM Labs, a unit that doesn’t exist anymore. He then moved over to being the GM of DPG. Not clear: if he’s moving over to the separate company now controlled by VantagePoint.

DPG competes with the likes of WorldNow andInternet Broadcasting, among others, in providing similar tech/publishing solutions to local TV and news operations.

News Corp refused to comment on the story.
