Gannett (NYSE: GCI) and Tribune have announced the creation of Metromix LLC, a joint venture that will promote and expand Metromix.com, a network of entertainment sites currently owned by Tribune. Tribune originally launched the site a decade ago as a Chicago entertainment guide; as discussed here, it recently announced an expansion of the network to cover other Tribune cities. Gannett’s participation in the JV will allow it to launch in most of the top 30 metro markets over the coming months, with a goal of 40 markets by the end of 2008. In cities where neither company has a paper, they will partner with a local media outlet. Currently, the Metromix network claims 14.5 million page views and 1.6 million unique users per month. The JV will be equally owned by the two companies. Other terms were not disclosed. Release.
