Gannett Invests in Live Streaming Service Mogulus; Total $10 Million

imageGannett (NYSE: GCI), which has been doing a number of strategic investments in the last year or so, has now invested in Mogulus, the New York City-based online video streaming startup. The investment is around $10 million, according to reports.

Mogulus, founded last year, has previous funding of about $2.7 million from various angels. It operates in a crowded field of personal/live broadcasting with players such as Paltalk, Stikam, Kyte, Qik, Justin.tv and many many others. It has been working with local papers within the Gannett chain already: one rather famous example was Hillary Clinton’s RFK remarks, made during a live interview in May with Gannett-owned Argus Leader S.D. editorial board Another is that Indianapolis Star, another Gannett paper, used Mogulus to broadcast a Bill Clinton campaign speech live from Indiana University campus.
