Genealogy 2.0 Site Kindo Funded By Skype Founders

Putney-based “next-generation” family tree network Kindo tells us it has just raised seed funding to add to its high-profile mix of early backers. The sum of an undisclosed size comes from Ambient Sound Investments (ASI), the Estonian-based VC house started by some of Skype’s founding engineers. The Accelerator Group’s Saul and Robin Klein and original Last.fm backer Stefan Glanzer had already given earlier seed funds. ASI will provide advice as well as money.

Kindo is a very Web 2.0 take on the genealogy trope. It’s available in 14 languages but is swimming in similar waters as Geni, Amiglia, MyFamily 2.0, FamilyLink, WeRelate, MyHeritage and the larger Ancestry.com. Like a few of those, however, when I tried it, it wouldn’t seem to let you add both a mother and a father who share the same email address.

Update: A busy week for the rich pockets of Skype alumni. Atomico, the VC outfit of Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, has given part of a $3 million investment to San Francisco-based dating website WooMe. Luxembourg-based Mangrove Capital led the round and early Skype angel Klaus Hommels was involved, too. More detail on our sister site paidContent.org...
