Two green focused media companies—3rdWhale and GenGreen—are merging. GenGreen claims the largest database of green businesses in North America, while 3rdWhale’s flagship iPhone app provides a way for users to find green businesses near to them. 3rdWhale has also built mobile apps for a number of green NGOs, including Greenpeace. Together, the two firms plan on launching ‘GenGreen Local,’ a network of hyperlocal web sites, which will offer “communities a powerful new grassroots resource to share information and help build their local green economies.” No financial terms of the deal were released. The new company will be called GenGreen Digital Media; GenGreen CEO Charisse McAuliffe will be CEO, while 3rdWhale Founder Boyd Cohen becomes president. More details here.
