GovDelivery, a government-focused online subscription and news services firm, has acquired GovLoop, a social network for government workers. GovLoop will become a new division within GovDelivery, with Steve Ressler, the network’s founder and president, continuing to oversee the community. Financial terms were not disclosed.

GovDelivery serves over 300 government agencies, from federal entities like U.S. Customs and Border Protection, to San Francisco’s Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). People can use the service to sign up for the agencies’ e-mail alerts and newsletters; the company says its network sends over 140 million emails per month. Meanwhile, GovLoop has over 18,000 members; founded in May 2008, government employees, students and contractors use the network to share job info, photos and content. The plan is to improve GovLoop’s tech platform moving forward. Release (pdf).
