High school sports social net Takkle has raised additional funding from Sports Illustrated and The New York City Investment Fund. The amount was not specified. In addition to the new investors, the New York-based community site is also continuing to receive funding from original backers WMG Investments, the investment arm of Wasserman Media Group, Greycroft Partners, IJ Smith Enterprises and Jack Schneider, managing director at Allen & Company.

Takkle plans to use the funding for further development of the site’s offerings. The funding also solidifies the social net’s relationship with SI, which has been involved with Takkle since its nationwide launch late last year. As part of the content sharing arrangement between the two, Takkle features SI articles on its site and it also sponsor’s the Time Inc. magazine’s Faces in the Crowd feature.

Disclaimer: Greycroft, an investor in Takkle, is also an investor in our parent company ContentNext Media.
