Home Improvement Social Net BeJane Acquired By Builder Homesite

Yesterday we mentioned that BeJane, the home improvement social network based in Burbank, CA, was acquired by an unnamed buyer. Today we know the name: Austin, TX-based Builder Homesite, the national homebuilder listing company, with sites such as newhomesource.com. BHI was formed in 2000 as a consortium of 36 of the nation’s largest homebuilders. It also provides new home listing content to many of the real estate portals in U.S.; recently it partnered with Move.com (formerly Homestore.com) to run Homebuilder.com. With this acquisition, the two companies expect to have cross pollination of content.

BeJane, founded in 2003 with the site launched in 2005, saw a management change last year brought on by its (mainly angel) investors to turn around the then-ailing company, following some emergency fund infusion. What’s not well known is that the white-knight VC last year was Ross Levinsohn, through his Velocity Interactive Group (now called Fuse Capital).
