MySpace (and increasingly Facebook) are the networks that production companies are choosing as the launchpads for original web series, because Hulu has become the de facto home of much of the “premium” content on the Web. But now Hulu is dipping its toe into the original series pool, with the pending launch of If I Can Dream, a series produced by Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment.

The weekly series, which focuses on a group of five people struggling for success in Hollywood, will go live in “early 2010;” the clips will be available exclusively on Hulu and the show’s site www.ificandream.com.

Keeping with Hulu’s focus on “premium” and long-form content, each episode will be about 30 minutes long. If I Can Dream will feature the standard banner ads, pre- and mid-roll video ads, as well as product placement. A Hulu spokesperson would not comment on the financial terms between the company and 19 Entertainment—though it’s an ad rev-share, as with most of the other shows on the video site.
