IAC Acquires GirlSense.com Parent StarNet; Targeting Tweens
On path to break into five pieces, IAC (NSDQ: IACI) has announced the acquisition of StarNet Interactive, the parent company of the GirlSense.com community site. Basically the site offers a virtual way to play dressup, and it targets the same demographics as the IAC-owned Zwinky virtual world. GirlSense will join the IAC Consumer Applications & Portals, which houses Zwinky, as well as SmileyCentral and Webfetti. It’s all about that sought after teen/tween demographic you hear so much about. Israel-based StarNet has raised at least $2.7 million in VC funding. Sale terms were unspecified. Release.
The acquisition comes a few days after IAC announced the acquisition of Dictionary.com parent Lexico.
Disclosure: Our parent company ContentNext Media is holding a mixer June 4 at IAC’s Gehry building; IAC is a sponsor of the mixer and EconAds, June 3.
