India’s government has banned the controversial and popular local cartoon porn site Savitabhabhi.com. The government’s telecom department has asked all Internet Service Providers to block the website in a communication earlier this month, according to documents seen by our sister site contentSutra. There has been mounting concern in India over upcoming changes in its tech law that give the government absolute powers to block any website without a hearing or assigning any reasons.

Launched in March 2008, the site is an adult cartoon strip featuring a married Indian woman’s sexual adventures. It gained notoriety earlier last year when a bunch of international press outlets started writing about it, highlighting the changing Indian social mores as a result of technology and globalization. Also, the portrayal of a married Indian woman as wildly promiscuous raised the hackles of many in a largely conservative nation. Lots more on Contentsutra, here.
