Newsweek.com Editor Will Tacy Is Out

After just six months as editor Newsweek.com, Will Tacy is leaving the company, paidContent has learned. A rep for the weekly mag confirmed that Tacy is exiting, but declined to say if this was voluntary. In any case, Tacy’s departure after just a few short months is only going to add more doubts to Newsweek’s ability to reinvent itself. One month before Tacy was brought on from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, where he was the digital managing editor, Newsweek said it would cut its staff as it slimmed down the print mag and began focusing more on analysis opposed to news summaries and reporting. More after the jump

When Tacy was leaving the Star-Tribune, MinnPost noted the paper had the nation’s fastest growing website.  It’s clear that Tacy, who replaced Tom Watson as the head of Newsweek.com’s editorial, wasn’t able to bring similar magic to the news mag’s site. In the meantime, Watson is still with the magazine as assistant managing editor.

Geoff Reiss, the managing editor of Newsweek’s Digital Group, will handle Tacy’s responsibilities for now. The Newsweek rep said that the magazine will be looking for someone to take on Tacy’s role, but no permanent replacement has been named yet. Tacy did not return a message seeking comment.
