As I suggested when he left the Republican National Committee earlier this year, Cyrus Krohn is headed back to Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) to work for Scott Moore, his former boss in Redmond and at Yahoo. In this latest incarnation, Krohn starts Monday as director of online services programming, responsible for leading the program strategy for MSN Local. He’ll report directly to Moore, now U.S. executive producer of MSN. In PR-speak: he “will help lead MSN’s efforts to revolutionize the way media experiences are delivered to consumers and advertisers.” (You may recall that Moore considered a local news startup before his return to Microsoft earlier this year.)

Krohn previously worked at Microsoft from 1996 through 2005, succeeding Moore as publisher of Slate.com and working for him at MSN Video. When Moore moved to Yahoo in 2005, Krohn soon followed. He left Yahoo in 2007 to head digital campaigning for the RNC, departing that role in early March. The Washington Post described his resignation as “an especially heavy blow—not just to the RNC, but to the conservative blogosphere.”

That intense effort at the local, regional and national levels should be a plus when it comes to local programming strategy but how heavy will that political baggage be at Microsoft?
