Day will oversee operations related to U.S. websites, as well as interactive technology, digital programming and licensing and home entertainment. Before this, Day had mainly been charged with growing e-commerce at DiscoveryStore.com. The move is part of a larger wave of streamlining and cost-cutting. In particular, a number of media properties are looking for ways to tie content with e-commerce functions, as advertising sales drop.

Before joining Discovery in 2005, Day was VP of e-commerce at wedding media company The Knot. She spent the previous seven years at AOL (NYSE: TWX) in a variety of digital media/commerce positions, with her primary focus being on building up the AOL Shopping channel, which coincidentally, just got a major overhaul, a rep for the Time Warner unit told paidContent.
