Industry Moves: Shaughnessy, Head Of Global Ad Sales At Microsoft, To Depart

Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) seems to be in the home stretch of retooling its entire ad-sales division: Bill Shaughnessy, Microsoft’s global VP of sales, marketing and services is departing. There’s been no official word on why the 15-year vet, who has experience on both the product and ad sales sides of MSFT’s business, is leaving. But it may be a facet of the larger reorg the company announced as part of its appointment of Qi Lu as head of digital two weeks ago.

AdAge suggests that his departure might also be tied to Brian McAndrews’ resignation, as the two execs worked closely together. McAndrews, who will serve as SVP of Microsoft’s Advertiser & Publisher Solutions (APS) Group until the end of this year, thanked Shaughnessy in his own farewell letter for helping to build the group. Shaughnessy recently brought in Time Inc. vet Robin Domeniconi to head up ad sales in the U.S. Domeniconi and the rest of the APS sales and marketing team will now report to Microsoft’s Corporate VP, Consumer & Online International, Darren Huston.
