Industry Moves: Tribune Ups Broadcast/Interactive Head Randy Michaels To COO

After a chaotic six months at The Tribune Company’s interactive division, this may be a sign that things are settling down… Randy Michaels, who defected from radio network Clear Channel (NYSE: CCU) in December to become CEO for Tribune’s Interactive and Broadcasting unit, has been named COO effective immediately. Michaels, who brought in fellow Clear Channel alum Marc Chase as president of interactive last month, will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s publishing, broadcasting and interactive divisions. Michaels’ promotion eliminates his previous post, a Tribune rep said.

Interactive division’s revolving door: Chase was previously Clear Channel’s SVP for programming. He replaced Mark Sotir, who had been heading up the interactive area since mid-February on an interim basis. Sotir took over from Tim Landon who left the company just as the transition under Sam Zell as chairman and CEO of Tribune was getting underway. Sotir has since returned to his primary role as managing director of Zell’s Equity Group Investments. Release
