Inspired By Glam Media, ProSiebenSat.1 Buys Women’s Portal Feeem Media

Looking to women’s fashion lifestyle network Glam Media in the U.S., German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 has acquired Munich-based Feeem Media, which is working on forming a women’s portal at Fem.com. The portal is set to be up and running by the end of the year. Terms were not disclosed.

Fem.com has bundled about 20 medium-sized websites, covering areas such as beauty, fashion, celebrities, music and relationships. While ProSiebenSat.1 (FRA: PSM) claims its sites already receive 2.8 billion monthly page impressions, it says none of its current properties, either on the web or broadcast side, directly targets women. The acquisition is intended to fix that. As Dr. Marcus Englert, a member of ProSiebenSat.1 New Media executive board said in the announcement: “Our goal is to position Fem.com in the mid-term as one of Europes leading womens content networks and to repeat the success of the example set by Glam.com in the U.S.”  I am not sure “success” is a term you can use this early for a company like Glam Media….lots of open questions on whether the model is replicable in other sectors, and how sustainable it is over the long term, especially with the uncertain economic times.
