Latest Yahoo Org Changes: Scott Moore Adds Entertainment, Broady Out; LMC Splitting Up

[with Rafat Ali] Surely the last thing Scott Moore wants to hear is that he’s the new “Lloyd Braun” given all the baggage that brings but we have learned from multiple sources and have confirmed that the latest org changes at Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) give him the bulk of Braun’s old job. Not the top-line power, though: that stays with Yahoo Network EVP Jeff Weiner, whose org chart gets a newish look as early as this week. Vince Broady, promoted with Moore to SVP last spring, is out as head of Games, Entertainment & Youth; I am told Yahoo would like him to stay but saying anything else about his role right now would be too speculative. Hired by Braun, he joined Yahoo in 2006 after 5-plus years at CNET (NSDQ: CNET) Networks. Moore gets Broady’s portfolio: Entertainment, including Music, TV, Movies, new gossip site OMG, etc. —and, we believe, Games and Youth. Also, despite persistent rumors to the contrary, Santa Monica will continue as the entertainment hub. Reached Saturday afternoon, a Yahoo spokesman said only that the company “doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation.” More after the jump…

Scott Moore, YahooMoore was hired away from MSN by Braun in 2005 as VP-content operations and was responsible for news and finance, adding sports last year; he has outlasted a number of execs, including Braun. His areas were singled out by CEO Jerry Yang during the Q3 earnings call as category leaders. Yang mentioned those areas as part of Yahoo’s new “starting points” strategy. Moore played a key part in the acquisition this year of college sports network Rivals, which helped push Sports past ESPN.  (Moore spoke about his group’s activities during the closing session of our Future of Business Media conference.)

LMC split: The LMC (Local Markets and Commerce) properties were moved from Hilary Schneider’s group to Weiner’s several months ago with Jennifer Dulski leading Shopping, Travel, Auto, Real Estate and Local. Dulski left Yahoo last month to head social community site Fatdoor and the LMC properties are being split up, with some going to Vish Makhijani, SVP & GM, Yahoo Search, and some to Moore’s group. Not sure which is going where.

The group now led by Weiner looks decidedly different and better defined than the almost unwieldy set-up he inherited in the first re-org late last year. Essentially, he has three lieutenants: Moore, Makhijani, and Brad Garlinghouse, whose own power base expanded with the acquisition of Zimbra.
