Local Content Aggregator Outside.in Gets $3 Million Third Round

Outside.in, an aggregator of local, user-gen content, has raised a $3 million third round from past backers Union Square Ventures, Milestone Partners, Betaworks and various unidentified angels led by George Crowley. Also joining the round was the New York City Investment Fund. The Brooklyn, NY-based startup has previously raised $2.4 million over two rounds, for a total raise of $5.4 million. The service works by collecting largely blog-based content based on geography, which it can then serve up by region and by category. You could compare it to a constantly updated user-gen local paper.

Along with the funding, the company has announced the hiring of new CEO Mark Josephson, former President of Seevast Corp. and General Manager of About.com. With that, co-founder and current CEO Steven Berlin Johnson (author and co-founder of Feed mag) will remain executive chairman. The company says the new funding will be used to expand the current platform and deliver more location-based tools to content publishers.
