Tsavo Media, the Santa Monica, CA-based online media rollup recently started by former Userplane CEO Mike Jones, has acquired user-generated recipe site Open Source Food (OSF) from Egg & Co., a venture of Tokyo-based Web producer Jon Anthony Yongfook Cockle (“Yongfook”). No financial details were disclosed. More details in release.

Tsavo is funded by PE firm American Capital, and has acquired two companies since its formation in September last year: MoxyMedia, the Canada-based online media firm with a portfolio of about 300 different online publishing sites, and Better, the El Segundo, CA-based online marketing and SEO firm.

OSF has been renamed NibbleDish; Yongfook will remain with the company. User-gen recipe sites is a crowded space, with competition from the likes of Reader’s Digest-owned AllRecipes, Scripps-owned Recipezaar, and Time Inc-owned MyRecipes.com, among many others.
