Microsoft, Univision Partner On Spanish Downloads For Zune

imageMicrosoft (NSDQ: MSFT) is partnering with Univision on Baja Zune Musica (Download Zune Music), a music download service that will be featured on Univision.com. The deal gives Microsoft another outlet for its over 4 million tracks available through the Zune Marketplace as it will serve as the exclusive provider of downloadable music for Univision in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Microsoft is offering Zune users 50 percent off select Latin artists and albums as a teaser incentive.

It’s the latest in a slew of high-profile Zune-related developments and partnerships, including the planned rollout of a 120GB player and adding free WiFi via a partnership with Wayport, quashing some critics’ arguments that it might be time for Microsoft to give up plugging its player. Microsoft rolled out a Reggaeton-themed Zune in 2007, and Apple’s iTunes Latino was launched back in 2006, but the predecessor to both their bilingual ambitions was Emepe3.com (now, seemingly a Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) property), which launched in 2004.
